Nobody Asked Me But....

1) Smithsonian Folkways and Appleseed Recordings really keep the “tradition” alive and also let us find new treasures.

2) It is too bad that Mike Seeger was not around for the release of the box set of the New Lost City Ramblers.

3) “Wrestling With Moses” is a really readable book on a great subject---not the biblical Moses.


4) Ted Kennedy evolved into a great leader and statesman and yet the name Kopechne still always comes to my mind.

5) General Motors created the roads of the future (Futurama) for the 1939 Worlds Fair---who knew the roads led to bankruptcy court.


6) T R Reid’s interview about healthcare options makes the Canadian model look better and better since it mimics Medicare---for everyone.

7) If Quadaffi gets to camp out in his tent I don’t think he should be allowed to toast marshmallows---and also not have his portable air conditioner ( or camp songs after 9 PM.)


8) The survey numbers are in and the viewers of The Daily Show and Stephen Colbert are “cool”. So why would they take a 3 week hiatus just when the networks are debuting their new programs

9) Ben Bernanke should be considered a hero---mostly to his colleagues who came out even wealthier than before.

10) I just admire the diplomacy of people who lose in a game of tennis and then say, “...wow, you have such a rinky dink serve I just could not figure it out” (glad I said a better choice of words is “...too good for you I guess”.)

11) Facebook friends, as someone said to me, are not your “friends” they are your “strangers’” and some are stanger than others.

12) I am hoping to see Federer do it this year at the U S Open and if not him then Nadal. The two players with the most talent and class and let us not even mention the name Jacovic. Or spell it right.

13) Are “multiplexes” really an improvement over the grand film palaces of yore?

14) Mad Men just keeps getting better and better and if you really pay attention you can see what major events are coming up in that era by a few of the “throwaway” lines.

15) As a general rule NYC bus drivers are a friendly and courteous group and the Subway employees the opposite---must be from being underground.

NOBODY ASKED ME BUT.....

1) It is obscene that NY State legislators are able to “retire” for one day and then go back to their jobs and collect then the salary AND a full pension.


2) Seems like NJ has illegal issues and NY has illegal issues done legally and getting the same result.

3) It was nice to see Mad Men back on the tube and seeing my wardrobe in fashion again—along with the decor.

4) Some great things in NYC are free---like the qualifying rounds at the U S Open

5) Does the notoriety of the hostage and situation determine the fame of the person designated to “free” him/her?

6) Seems like there is more news on Comedy Central late news programs than the local network ones---unless you just like see fires and accidents and poorly dressed weather people.

7) The latter part of the summer season seems to be the pre-cursor to some interesting new material coming in over the transom for the radio programs----Joel Mabus, Jonathan Edwards, Jakobs Hollow and more for TRADITIONS--- Beyond The Pale, Susan Colin, Susan McKeown/Lorin Sklamberg and more for SUNDAY SIMCHA.


8) It would have been so nice if Mocca, the Hungarian restaurant in NYC had not closed a while back. I still miss that good home cooking and a full meal for $13.95 and a waitress that always sounded like your mother.

9) V.A. medical care is all well and good---unless you need medication promptly. After all the tests, scheduling appointments with a doctor who goes by a computer script, and having medicine mailed to you at a future date you have either recovered or went to meet some fellow veterans behind the pearly gates.

10) In all aspects of life you get what you pay for and, hopefully, you can pay.


11) I am still waiting to see Yoo Hoo Mrs. Goldberg which will have to be when it comes out on DVD---or PBS does a special fund-raiser.

12) I still like a full length CD instead of the individual downloads for modern reasons as opposed to the step back to the days of 78s and individual songs.

13) Why is it that so many of the greatest artists die at such young ages---does creativity cause mental and health problems?

14) Woodstock is commemorated at 40—when did 40 become the new 50 or 75 and how come no one (except NPR) mentioned the other festival in Central Park that wknd. Billed as the Black Woodstock?


15) The DVD of The Zion Canyon Song Cycle is really something not to be missed.

NOBODY ASKED ME BUT.....

1) Why do people tell you to stop being defensive when that is what are and transfer it to you?

2) Is not Julie and Julia a really nice film but not a great one?

3) Does that not sound like an old Woody Allen routine about Gertrude Stein?

4) Why are people so excited about Baseball when Soccer, Tennis, Basketball, and other sports (Not U S Football—that has lots of “tush” patting) have more action?

5) Don’t you think that the Hudson River should have flight restrictions?

6) Mad Men starts again this Sunday on TV and it is a delight to welcome back an intelligent but expensive production compared to the cheap quiz and reality shows.

7) Sadly MONK is in its last season.

8) It surely is sad to have lost so many “folk” icons in such a short period of time since we thought they might go on forever.

9) Why are so many people upset because there is a proposal to improve Health Care in this nation since they really are not that well off?

10) When did movie tickets become the price of Broadway tickets and Broadway Tickets become the price of airline tickets and Airline tickets become Space Travel equivalents without any amenities.

11) It seems inane to pay big city police less than their suburban counterparts who face less risk and less work. Their pensions (the suburban ones) are also obscene.

12) I am glad that Hillary Clinton can show some emotion in a confrontation and not fall back on diplomatic clichés.

13) The subway system does lose some historic significance by having letter and number lines rather than the “traditional” names of the various divisions.

14) TV has improved technically and deteriorated with regard to content.

15) When people say “...they don’t build ‘em like they used to” it usually turns out the product is better and the memory is faulty.
