Program Notes and Reminders and Some Miscellany

A few brief updates on 3 radio programs---or shall we do it the formal British way--programmes:

TABLETALK: A reminder that the multi-faceted DAVID AMRAM will join the program for the entire time. His conversation promises to be quite scintillating. If you are of a certain age you may recall Alexander King on Jack Paar's program. Well, we have David Amram---lots of strong opinions presented in a great conversational way. In other words a wonderful raconteur. That is scheduled for August 12---8 AM. Rise and Shine.

SUNDAY SIMCHA: My thanks to one of our loyal listeners for some material that it will be wonderful to present to you---as we step together into our personal time capsule to be able to hear early Eddie Cantor material, Cab Calloway with a Yiddish piece, and a lot of other surprises. That is for August 12. 10 A M as always---so as to go with your bagels, lox, and coffee.

This week at 9 A M a prayer for normal transmission will be offered --we will do that privately.

TRADITIONS: While no guests are scheduled we will--as I have done on an annual basis--musically re-visit some of the wonderful artists that have been my guests over the years. While there have been so many --Ronnie Gilbert, Michael Smith, Kim/Reggie Harris, Eric Bogle, Modern Man, and so many more they cannot all be mentioned here. Suffice it to say that I am overwhelmed by their talent and humbled by their appearances on the program.

Many apples have now been polished.

As to the miscellany it is a pleasure to have met so many of our loyal listeners at the MODERN MAN program at Lincoln Center Out of Doors. I have to thank one of our listeners for some great thoughts and CDs for the SUNDAY SIMCHA program.

The show was, as it always is, truly clever and full of great musicianship. The turn out on this day--the day after ARLO GUTHRIE appeared at that venue-- was impressive. The weather could not have been better and MODERN MAN, as I always say, are Equal Opportunity Skewerers of all ethnicitys, laws, and the human condition.

Put that on your bumper sticker and smoke it.

Memorable Milestone and Meaningful Mentions

The title is a tip of the hat to alliteration which always seems to be a grabber.

That grand fellow on the left is Carl J. Kraus, the General Manager of WFDU---0r as his Birthday Gift will say---El Jefe. Carl will be celebrating a milestone that this writer passed a while back---60 years.

While I am not privy to much of his history it can be said that he is living a full and creative life and, most importantly, is a man of import, loyalty, and depth.

The 3d person can be dropped now and I can speak in the first person---this is from personal knowledge and incidents. I have been both the recipient of his loyalty and his criticism. Frankly, both are appreciated because I know that they are rooted in sincerity.

I have been at WFDU for some 14 years now and I will not neglect mention of Ron Olesko for his introducing me to the station, Barry Sheffield for going along with this novice, I do want to say that Carl Kraus ---El Jefe--as he will see-- leads a good crew properly--just like Capt. Corchran on the HMS Pinafore.

I would also like to remind you that the funniest group that has visited planet Earth from their space in the galaxy will be appearing at Lincoln Center Out of Doors on August 5 at 2 PM. Best of all---since dollars do not work on the alien place they come from it is FREE. I speak of Modern Man. Hope you be there--I have, actually, left my cell at WFDU and will attend. Parole is so good for a day.

RELATIONSHIPS

That comes after DATING. Ours has been tested so let me fill you in on a few things.

While it is always nice to give you updates on the various programs I am involved in at WFDU, the upcoming shows of various artists, and on The Almost Daily Rooster (see right side for link) some topical and non-musical items it is also of import to offer some entertainment. Whew--what a long sentence. Catching my literary breath now.

So to get you to visit the Playlist Page (link on the right side) I offer you there--at this time---step right in--the person who not only is our signature sign-off for SUNDAY SIMCHA (right after the wondrous Margot Leverett and The Klezmer Mountain Boys) but a comedian who I think was just brilliant. If you view the videos it would be interesting to see which ones you think were obvious "shtick" and which were his classic put-ons. Specifically his "engagement" announcement to a Christian Gospel Singer.

Where else are you going to get this service along with what most people who write "blogs" do--as Rob Carlson confided in me---and the radio audience--find out if people are as interested in the writers as the writers are in themselves. Unfortunately, David Buskin wants to steal my article on Bowel Movements I have had and make it his lead piece. Never give away your ideas---they get stolen.

NO---not about getting a date---merely to tell you that there is an addition to yesterday's post that I think you should know about----you need the laugh. Trust me.

Let me add that while it is not about getting dates you can get dates off trees in the area this brilliant group sings about---if there were peace.

Most of the "Yiddishkeit" is usually on Page 2 ( Playlists). This seemed important to post on both pages. Try page 3 too--I grant not the crap of Page 6 of the latter day New York Post.
